Why a matchmaking app launches city by city.

Product-mechanics articles are checked against the current implementation and public policies.
A local matchmaking product needs more than a total user count. It needs enough mutually eligible members within practical distance of one another.
Every preference narrows the local pool.
Distance, age, gender, relationship goals, and other preferences can remove candidates before ranking begins. Because those preferences are reciprocal, the eligible pool can be much smaller than the number of registered members in a city.
Thresholds reduce it again.
Find Your Person also requires the modeled-conversation gate and directional match scores to pass. A city can therefore have members without having an eligible introduction for every person each week.
What the waitlist actually does.
The waitlist records email and city interest, verifies the address, and gives the launch team a view of potential local demand. It does not guarantee a launch date, an invitation, or a match. New York City is the first planned market; other city dates have not been announced.
