Seven privacy questions to ask an AI dating app.

AI dating products can collect unusually intimate information. Before joining one, find specific answers about collection, purpose, sharing, retention, control, security, and safety.

1. What sensitive information is collected?

Look beyond email and profile photos. Ask about voice recordings, transcripts, facial embeddings, estimated photo attributes, messages, precise or approximate location, and behavioral signals.

2. Is each data type required?

3. What is the exact purpose?

“Improving the experience” is too vague. Ask which data builds a profile, ranks candidates, moderates safety issues, trains or improves models, or measures product performance.

4. Who receives the data?

“We do not sell data” does not mean “we never share data.” Check for infrastructure, analytics, email, payment, AI-model, identity, and safety providers, plus legal and business-transfer disclosures.

5. How long is each data type retained?

Retention should be described by category. Voice recordings, transcripts, messages, biometric data, safety records, payment records, and backups can have different schedules.

6. What can I delete or opt out of?

Check whether you can withdraw biometric consent, delete photos, remove an account, manage communication preferences, and request access or deletion. Read the exceptions for fraud, safety, tax, and legal records.

7. What happens when something goes wrong?

Find the reporting channel, block controls, security-contact address, breach-notification language, and emergency guidance before you need them.
